Donation Barrels

Once a year, we ship barrels full of useful items to the people at St. Catherine of Siena school in Anaka.

In 2014, we started collecting items that would benefit the school. The first set of barrels, “Making Their Dream Come True,” were sent by ship from New York City, across the Atlantic to Kenya, and finally to Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.  They continued their journey 7 hours north before arriving in the village of Olwiyo. This 3 month journey was worth the wait. The teachers and students were so happy to receive paper, pencils, books, learning aides, balls, etc. from their friends in the USA.

In 2015, our second set of barrels called the “Hot Feet” project collected and shipped 500 pairs of shoes to St. Catherine’s School, making many little feet very happy! The “Backpack” project in 2016 collected over 100 backpacks filled with school supplies/toys. In 2017, “Teacher Aide” barrels were filled with clothes, bed sheets, shoes, etc. for the teachers of SCS. Children clothing along with some Church related items and canes for the elderly arrived in June 2019.

Currently, we are collecting shoes (ages 3-12) and soccer balls (new/used) for the children. We are also requesting new or used gas powered weed whackers (in good working order), garden tools such as forks, spades, hoes, shovels, pruning shears, etc. will also be helpful for the upkeep of the grounds, gardens and piggery at the school. Donations can be brought to the Gulu 5K & Doggie Dash in September.
